LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell softball team (7-33, 0-12 AE) will face off against a pair of non-conference opponents in mid-week tilts.
 
The River Hawks will first visit Central Connecticut State for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. before welcoming in-state foe Boston University to River View Field for a single game beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
 
RIVER HAWK RECAP
UMass Lowell, who owns a 7-33 overall record and a 0-12 mark in league play, picked up three wins last week. The River Hawks split a twin bill at Dartmouth on April 12, taking a 4-3 victory in game one. The squad then wrapped up a 12-game road swing by sweeping a doubleheader at Rhode Island on April 14 with 8-2 and 11-7 wins. UMass Lowell then hosted America East foe Stony Brook for a three-game weekend series, but the Seawolves earned all three decisions. Freshman Sydney Barker (Upland, Calif.) paced the offense last week with a .435 average and seven runs scored. She added five RBI, in addition to logging her first career home run. Rookie pitcher Sydney Wash (Suffolk, Va.) picked up two wins in the circle, while classmate Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) maintained just a 1.09 ERA in five appearances.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Through 40 games this year, junior Tori Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.) leads the River Hawks with a .316 batting average, 37 hits, 23 runs, 24 walks and 15 stolen bases. Junior Alisha Welch (Langley, British Columbia), who is hitting .276, is first on the team with 17 RBI, while sophomore Samantha McQueen (Ewing, N.J.) adds 13 RBI. In the circle, Kaysee Talcik leads the squad's pitching staff with a 3.39 ERA. Sydney Wash chips in with a team-best 56 strikeouts and four wins.
 
SCOUTING CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE
The Blue Devils are currently 13-17-1 overall. The team split a doubleheader with Wagner on April 17 after taking two from Mount St. Mary's on April 16. Kaitlin Paterson (.340) and Eileen Purcell (.302) have paced the CCSU offense in 2016. Paterson totals 16 runs scored, and is tied for first with 11 RBI. Emily Sargent owns a 2.94 ERA with 69 strikeouts and an 8-6 record.
 
SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
The Terriers sit at 14-20 so far in 2016. Most recently, the squad took two of three from Bucknell on April 16-17, including an 8-0 win in five innings in game one of the series. Brittany Younan is first on the team with a .373 average and 44 hits. Alex Heinen adds to offense with 21 RBI, while Emma Wong has 22 runs scored. Lauren Hynes boasts a team-best 2.63 ERA and 91 strikeouts.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The River Hawks trail in both their all-time series against Central Connecticut State and Boston University, 10-2. CCSU and BU swept doubleheaders with UMass Lowell last season.
 
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The River Hawks currently sit seventh in the America East standings. UAlbany leads the league with a 26-11 overall mark and a 7-0 start in conference action. As a team, UMass Lowell is second in the conference with 1,001 at-bats. Individually, Tori Alcorn ranks first in the America East for walks (24) and third for stolen bases (15). Kaysee Talcik (3.39) and Sydney Wash (3.42) are six and seventh, respectively, for ERA.
 
SEEING DOUBLE
Sydney Barker tied a program record with three doubles in game one. She became the first River Hawk to match that single-game mark since 2011 and the fifth to do so all-time.
 
THREE CHEERS
The River Hawks made history at Rhode Island with three home runs in one inning. Sydney Barker, Samantha McQueen and junior Alyssa Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y.) each sent a ball out of the park to help lead the squad to a victory in game two, marking the program's most home runs in a single game at the Division I level.
 
GOING STREAKING
Tori Alcorn turned in a seven-game hit streak from Feb. 20-28, good for the team's longest hitting stretch of the season. She also owns the team's longest on-base streak of the season, which was nine games.
