LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-4) was handed a 17-5 home loss from Sacred Heart (2-3) on Sunday afternoon.

"We were excited from our win from last game, but I don't think we came out with the same type of fire, heart and hustle that we typically have been showing," said Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "We were a little stricken with not be able to make adjustments after Sacred Heart was taking advantage of what we were offering them."

Freshman attacker Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) and Noelle Lambert (Londonderry, N.H.) posted a team-high two goals apiece, while freshman goalkeeper Courtney Barrett picked up a team-best five ground balls.

Sacred Heart came out firing, notching three consecutive goals within the first eight minutes of the game to snag the 3-0 lead. The Pioneers went on to tally two more unanswered goals, jumping out to a 5-0 lead with 11:17 remaining in the first half.

With 10:51 on the clock, freshman attacker Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.) broke up the visitors scoring, with her eight goal of the season to cut the Pioneer lead, 5-1.

Sacred Heart regained a five-goal lead after Jenna Liljeberg picked up her second goal of the contest, sneaking one past Barrett and into the back of the net.

Despite being out scored, 2-1, in the final five minutes of the first half, Idson posted her second goal of the season for the River Hawks to cut the Pioneers lead to four, 6-2. Freshman midfielder Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) picked up the assist after setting up Idson with a great pass in front of the net.

Sacred Heart's offense continued to dominate, starting the second half on an 8-0 run to hold a 15-2 advantage with 16:16 left to play.

The home team fought back to notch three goals in the second half, breaking up the Pioneers scoring run, and tallying their final goals of the contest. Lambert posted back-to-back goals for the River Hawks, converting on a free position shot before beating goalkeeper Carly Cavagnaro stick side. With 3:15 to play, Idson rounded out the scoring for UMass Lowell, after netting her second goal of the decision, and fifth team goal.

Sacred Heart added its final goal of the day with 43 seconds left, as the visitors secured the 17-5 road win.

Sunday's matchup was just the second meeting between the River Hawks and the Pioneers, as Sacred Heart owns a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. UMass Lowell is back in action on Saturday, March 12 when the squad travels to Quinnipiac for a 1 p.m. tilt, to kick off a five game road swing.
