CLEARWATER, Fla. – The UMass Lowell softball team (4-12) will wrap up its spring break trip in Florida with seven games in five days.

The River Hawks will first play a pair of games on Wednesday, March 16 against Quinnipiac and Army beginning at 11 a.m. The team then closes out tournament play for 2016 at the Under Armour Tournament hosted by South Florida on March 18-20. UMass Lowell opens the weekend against Rutgers and Marist on Friday before squaring off against Quinnipiac and Florida A&M on Saturday. The squad plays its final game of the trip against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sunday. All games will take place at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.

RIVER HAWK RECAPUMass Lowell, who currently owns a 4-12 record in 2016, kicked off its longest trip of the season at the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament from March 11-13. The River Hawks turned in a 1-4 mark that weekend, including a 10-2 victory against North Dakota in five innings on March 12. In that decision,
Tori Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Sophomore
Kate Mims chipped in with two hits and two RBI, while junior
Alisha Welch (Langley, British Columbia) logged a three-run home run. Freshman pitcher
Sydney Wash (Suffolk, Va.) earned the win in the circle with four strikeouts in the complete-game decision. During the event, the River Hawks faced setbacks against IPFW (6-5), Detroit (9-8), USC Upstate (9-0) and Butler (6-3).

LEADING THE FLOCKThrough the first 16 games of the year,
Tori Alcorn paces the River Hawks with 21 hits, 12 runs, four doubles and a .429 batting average.

Brianna West (Fairfield, Conn.), who both started every game so far, have added to the offense with .404 and .326 averages, respectively. Welch also boasts a team-high 13 RBI. Senior

Sydney Wash leads the team's pitchers with a 2.21 ERA, 17 strikeouts and a 2-3 record.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIACThe Bobcats enter Wednesday's matchup on a five-game losing streak. The team went 0-5 at the USF Under Armour Showcase to move to 5-9 on the year. Emily Czaja leads the team with a .375 batting average, while Dani Edmands leads the club in hits with 13 and Keilani Finley is first with nine RBI. Sydney Robey paces the pitching staff for Quinnipiac, posting a 3-4 record and 2.19 ERA.

SCOUTING ARMYHeading into its final spring break game, Army owns a 10-10 overall record. The Black Knights are led in the circle by Kristen West, who boasts a 7-1 record. Mae Wadyka is the team's top offensive threat with a .386 batting average, and a team-high 22 hits and 15 runs.

SCOUTING RUTGERSRutgers is 9-14 on the season, winning their last contest, 6-0, against Massachusetts. Shayla Sweeney has recorded a 4-2 record in the circle so far this season with a 2.85 ERA. At the plate, Stephanie Huang is the team's leader in hits (26) and runs (15) with a .342 batting average, good for second on the squad. Rebecca Hall paces Rutgers with three home runs and 15 RBI, as well.

SCOUTING MARISTMarist comes into the Under Armour Tournament with an 11-4 record. The Red Foxes won their most recent two games at the UMBC Tournament in Baltimore against UMBC (4-1) and Mount St. Mary's (10-9). Rebecca Freeman and Gabriel Kelliher are pacing the squad with .374 and .364 batting averages, respectively. Meg Beiermeister is leading the team's pitchers with a 4-0 record and a 2.42 ERA.

SCOUTING FLORIDA A&MFlorida A&M is 9-15 on the season, but has won three of its last four games. In the Lady Rattler's most recent contest, a 3-0 loss to BUcknell, Kenya Pereira allowed just one earned run in six innings of work. Whitney Farris and Taylor Rosier were the only hitters to get on base for the FAMU in that outing.

SCOUTING UT-CHATTANOOGAChattanooga enters the Under Armour Tournament with 27 games already in the books. The Lady Mocs are 15-12 overall, but dropped their last decision, 4-3, against Charleston Southern. Jordan Fortell leads the team with a .345 batting average, three home runs, 16 RBI and 30 hits. In the circle, Cori Jennings is 5-2 on the season with an ERA of just 1.22.

THE LAST TIMEUMass Lowell played Marist earlier this season at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational on February 19. The River Hawks dropped a closely-contested, 2-1 decision in that meeting. UMass Lowell and Quinnipiac were slated to square off last season, but that 2015 doubleheader was cancelled due to inclement weather.

AROUND THE LEAGUEThe River Hawks currently sit sixth in the America East standings. Albany leads the league with a 9-6 overall mark on the young season.
