Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) put up a season-high five points (3g,2a) and junior
Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) recorded four goals, in a offensive driven 12-10 loss to Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon at Rafferty Stadium.
The River Hawks now stand at 0-4 (0-0 AE) while Fairfield picks up their first win of the year to move to 1-3 (0-0 CAA).
After going seven minutes without a goal from either team, both offenses opened up, scoring eight goals in the next seven minutes. Tyrrell gave the River Hawks a brief one goal lead on his second goal of the year, but Fairfield tied it up less than 30 seconds later.
Christopher Litchfield (Burlington, Mass.) netted one 40 seconds after Tyrrell's initial goal, putting the River Hawks up 2-1. After
Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) scored his first of two goals on the day, the Stags rattled off five straight goals finishing the first quarter with a 5-3 lead.
The scoring continued into the beginning of the second quarter, with Lane's second goal coming in between a pair of Fairfield goals, all in the first 3 minutes. The game slowed down for the rest of the half, but the River Hawks picked up two more scores, including
Sam Klingsporn's 10
th goal of the year. That came with 33 seconds left before the intermission, and put the River Hawks down just one goal.
Locker room adjustments proved to be a major key for the River Hawks, who scored the first three goals of the second half to take an 8-7 lead. The go ahead goal came from the stick of Klingsporn, who finished off a hat trick with 6:27 to go in the third. UMass Lowell coulnt hold the lead for long though, as Fairfield scored a minute later, tying the game back up at 8-8. It was the first of a three goal run, which left it 10-8 Stags after three.
After a quiet start to the fourth quarter, the Stags added two man-up goals to push their lead to four. The River Hawks responded with two goals of their own, as Tyrrell and Klingsporn scored within a minute of each other putting the River Hawks down two goals with just under five minutes left. UMass Lowell put together a couple of strong possessions late, but the Stags defense was too strong, and held for what would eventually be a 12-10 Fairfield win.

Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) recorded nine saves, most coming in the second half to keep the game close. The River Hawks defense excelled in their ball movement, clearing the ball 17 of 18 times, helping get UMass Lowell's to its biggest offensive output of the season.
The team returns home Saturday, March 5th after a two-game road trip, they host Jacksonville at 1 p.m at Cushing Field Complex.
