RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Freshman attacker Noelle Lambert (Londonderry, N.H.) tallied a game-high five points (4g, 1a) in a back-and-forth game, but ultimately the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (0-2) was edged, 12-11, in overtime at Manhattan (2-1) on Wednesday afternoon.Â

"I am really excited about how we were able to bounce back from our first game and into our second game," said Head coach Carissa Medeiros. "We anticipated being competitive and that was our overall goal, that is what we focused on coming into this game and we did that for 60 minutes. It was a game we could have won, but there are a lot of things to be excited about."

Despite the loss, the River Hawks recorded a program-high 11 goals, while posting double-digits goals for the first time in program history.

Lambert's hat trick was the first of the season and one of two in the game, as freshman midfielder Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.) added her own in the second half.

Lambert opened up the scoring, notching four consecutive goals in the first eight minutes of the opening half, to give the River Hawks their first lead of the season. The freshman extended the squad's lead to 4-0 less than two minutes later, taking advantage on a free position shot. Junior midfielder Kristy Robertson (Kingston, N.H.) and freshman attacker Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.) each picked up an assist on Lambert's first and third goal.

Manhattan answered with two goals of their own, to cutting the River Hawk's lead, 4-2, with 21:58 to in the half, on goals by Claire Roediger and Megan Yarusso.

With 17:50 to play, Robertson tallied her first career goal to help UMass Lowell reclaim the, 5-2, lead. The Jaspers fought back to score three unanswered goals, as the score remained tied, 5-5, with 11:15 in the first.

The River Hawks would reclaim the lead with eight minutes to play, after freshman midfielder Kristina Keith (Exeter, N.H.) blasted one past Manhattan goalkeeper Nikki Prestiano. Manhattan would tack on one last goal to even the score, 6-6, rounding out the first half.

The two teams continued to trade goals in a second half which saw a tie game three different times. The two squads totaled two goals apiece within the first four minutes as Robertson and Moran each posted a goal for the River Hawks.

The home team later went on a 3-1 run, giving the Jaspers an 11-9 buffer and their first lead of the game with 10:05 left to play.

With five minutes remaining, the River Hawks regained the momentum, resulting in two goals that tied the game, 11-11, one final time. In the final minutes of regulation UMass Lowell caused three turnovers to shut out the Jaspers and force sudden death over time.

Manhattan's Stefanie Ranagan recorded her second goal of the day to seal the Jaspers 12-11 victory against the River Hawks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) totaled 12 saves in the outing, while three different River Hawks recorded a team-high three groundballs.

Wednesday's contest marked the just the second meeting between Manhattan and the UMass Lowell, as the Jaspers hold a slight 2-0 edge in the all-time series.
