River Hawks Wrap Up 2015-16 at UAlbany

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team takes the court for the final time in 2015-16, battling the UAlbany Great Danes at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25th.

Looking at the River Hawks
The River Hawks saw a 40-26 lead slip away as Binghamton stormed back to score 28 points in the fourth quarter in the Bearcats 55-52 victory on February 20. UMass Lowell held a slim 52-50 margin with 42 seconds left, but the hosts scored the last five points to clinch the win. Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 19 points, and recorded her 19th career double-double with 12 rebounds. Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) added 12 points, and Oda Shackelford (Edinburgh, Ind.) tied her career high with eight points, and set a personal best while grabbing eight rebounds. 

Leading the Flock
The UMass Lowell offense is led by a trio of players averaging double-digits this season. Doucette is controlling the attack with 13.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Gibbs is scoring 12.2 points per game with 7.7 rebounds, while Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) is scoring 11.6 points and hitting 39.7 percent (46-116) of her three-pointers. Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) has dished out 96 (3.6 Ast/Game) assists to facilitate the offense. On the defensive side of the ball, Doucette has 21 blocks and 28 steals. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 598-of-1476 (40.5%) from the field and 33.6 percent (141-420) from beyond the arc.

Scouting UAlbany
The Great Danes improved to 22-4 overall and 13-1 in the conference following their 62-49 win at Stony Brook on Feb. 17. Shereesha Richards leads the team and America East with 22.2 points per game, while Imani Tate is chipping in 18.0. Zakiya Saunders adds 11.4 points and has dished out 192 assists in 26 games. All but three of Erin Coughlinís 44 field goals have come beyond the arc (41-139) . Richards is grabbing 8.8 rebounds per game, while Tiana-Jo Carter has 29 blocks.AS a squad, UAlbany is shooting 48.2 percent (700-1452) from the field, and 61-of-205 (29.8%) from beyond the arc. ?

Series History
The River Hawks lead the series, 8-7, but UAlbany has won every Division I meeting, including 85-55 on Jan. 27 at the Tsongas.

1000-Point Club
Lindsey Doucette became the 15th player in program history to eclipse the 1000-point plateau, with a career-high 28 points against Hartford. With 373 points this season, the senior has 1,079 in her career, for 10th all-time in program history. Doucette has set career-highs with 162 field goals and 373 points scored this season, overcoming her total of 308 as a sophomore.

Hayner for Three!
Nicole Hayner leads the team with 46 three-pointers and a 39.7 3pt percentage. She ranks third in the America East with in percentage and fourth in triples made per game with 2.0.

Always a Threat from Deep
As a unit, the River Hawks are leading the league shooting 33.6 percent from downtown, and are third averaging 5.2 makes per game. Last season, UMass Lowell led the league in three-point shooting with a 33.2 3FG% and averaged 6.8 makes per game.

Balling in the America East
The River Hawks are third in the in the conference with a 40.5 field goal percentage. UMass Lowell sits in fourth with 11.5 offensive rebounds per game, a rebounding margin of +1.0, and fifth scoring 58.2 points per game.

Spreading the Wealth
The River Hawks have had 13 games with three or more scorers in double figures. In three of the 13, UMass Lowell has had four players with 10 or more points. 

Controlling the Glass
The River Hawks have outrebounded their opponents in 17 games, including a five-game streak from November 28-December 9. UMass Lowell held a 41.8 (209) to 33.2 (166) advantage throughout the run.

Hayner recorded her 500th career point at UMBC (2.14) and connected on her 100th career three-pointer against Maine (2.11) ... against Stony Brook, Frase registered her 200th career assist, and Doucette grabbed the 750th rebound in her career (2.6) … Doucette rejected her 100th career shot against Hartford (2.3) … Oda Shackelford (Edinburgh, Ind.) made her first career start at Maine (1.13) … Frase registered her 500th career point against Stony Brook (1.9) … Shackelford made her debut at Fairleigh Dickinson and scored eight points … Doucette's 17 rebounds against FIU is the second-best single game performance in the America East this season … Nazarae Butler (Columbus, Ohio) and Katherine Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind.) made first collegiate starts at Rhode Island … Frase snagged her 100th and 101st career rebounds against Columbia … Butler and Smith made their collegiate debuts against No. 6 Maryland.
