River Hawks Trek to Binghamton for Saturday Afternoon Clash

LOWELL, Mass. –
 The UMass Lowell women's basketball team travels to Binghamton for its second to last game of the season on Feb. 20. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Looking at the River Hawks
Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) and Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) each scored 15 points on senior night, but the New Hampshire Wildcats hung on for a 63-55 victory. With a combined 12 field goals and six assists, the seniors combined for 78% of UMass Lowell's baskets. Doucette also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and recorded two steals. After trailing 26-13 early in the second quarter, the River Hawks battled back to cut the deficit to 42-41 with 2:31 left in the third, but the Wildcats rebounded and the hosts could not get any closer. 

Leading the Flock
The UMass Lowell offense is led by a trio of players averaging double-digits this season. Doucette is controlling the attack with 13.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) is scoring 12.2 points per game with 7.7 rebounds, while Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) is scoring 11.0 points and hitting 40.3 percent (45-111) of her three-pointers. Frase has dished out 93 (3.6 Ast/Game) assists to facilitate the offense. On the defensive side of the ball, Doucette has 18 blocks and 28 steals. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 578-of-1423 (40.6%) from the field and 33.7 percent (138-409) from beyond the arc.

Scouting Binghamton
The Bearcats improved to 11-15 overall and 6-7 in America East play following their 66-52 victory against Vermont on February 16. Imani Watkins powers the offense, scoring 15.8 points per game. Alyssa James and Kim Albrecht add 14.8 and 12.4 points, respectively. Watkins also leads the squad wit 100 assists and 61 steals, while James grabs 8.0 rebounds and has registered 80 blocks. As a unit, Binghamton is connecting on 36.7 percent (536-1460) from field, and 114-of-349 (32.7%) from beyond the arc. 

Series History
The Bearcats lead the series, 5-4, following their 75-70 overtime win at the Tsongas on Jan. 24.

1000-Point Club
Doucette became the 15th player in program history to eclipse the 1000-point plateau, with a career-high 28 points against Hartford. With 354 points this season, the senior has 1,060 in her career, for 10th all-time in program history.. Doucette has set career-highs with 154 field goals and 354 points scored this season, overcoming her total of 308 as a sophomore.

Hayner for Three!
Nicole Hayner leads the team with 45 three-pointers and a 40.5 3pt percentage. She ranks third in the America East with in percentage and triples made per game with 2.1

Always a Threat from Deep
As a unit, the River Hawks are leading the league shooting 33.7 percent from downtown, and are third averaging 5.3 makes per game. Last season, UMass Lowell led the league in three-point shooting with a 33.2 3FG% and averaged 6.8 makes per game.

Balling in the America East
The River Hawks are third in the conference with a 40.6 field goal percentage. UMass Lowell sits in fourth with 11.3 offensive rebounds per game, 58.4 points per game and with a rebounding margin of +1.0.

Spreading the Wealth
The River Hawks have had 13 games with three or more scorers in double figures. In three of the 13, UMass Lowell has had four players with 10 or more points.

Controlling the Glass
The River Hawks have outrebounded their opponents in 16 games, including a five-game streak from November 28-December 9. UMass Lowell held a 41.8 (209) to 33.2 (166) advantage throughout the run.
