"Maine's a great team and I'm really excited to see what they do in tournament play," said Head Coach Jenerrie Harris. "We wanted to get the ball inside against their defense to get some good looks to feed Kayla and Nikki, but we had too many turnovers tonight."
The Black Bears started the game on a 11-0 run before Gibbs got the hosts on the board with 2:35 remaining in the quarter. The bucket spearheaded an 11-4 run for the River Hawks to close the quarter, capped by a Hayner three-pointer at the buzzer, cutting the gap to 15-11 heading into the second.
Asia Mitchell-Owens (Roxbury, Mass.) bookended the quarter break with a triple of her own, and UMass Lowell trailed 15-14 with 9:45 left in the first half.
