LOWELL, Mass. –
Redshirt-junior Jahad Thomas (Williamsport, Pa.) posted his second double-double of the year, and hit the game-winning shot with just eight seconds on the clock to lead the UMass Lowell men's basketball team (4-8) to a 77-75 comeback victory against Boston University (5-7) on Wednesday evening.

"It was a great collective team effort tonight to get the win against a very good Boston University team," said Head Coach Pat Duquette. "There were also some huge individual plays down the stretch by our guys. I thought the game could've gone against us a number of times in the second half, but our guys responded each and every time."

The second half proved to be the difference maker for the River Hawks, shooting 50 percent (16-32) from the floor, compared to the opposition's 38 percent (13-34) in the final 20 minutes.

With the game tied at 75-75 inside of the last minute, Thomas drove hard to the net for what stood as the final tally of the night, despite a long attempt from BU that was ruled after the horn. Thomas totaled 20 points, good for his fifth straight double-digit performance, while adding a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior Tyler Livingston (Hudson, N.H.) paced the River Hawks with 21 points, in addition to logging a season-best eight rebounds. Junior Matt Harris (Erie, Pa.) chipped in with 15 points on the night, as well.

The River Hawks won the opening tip and logged the first points of the night on a put-back from Thomas. The scoreboard was even on three occasions until Cedric Hankerson drained a long ball to put the Terriers ahead, 13-10, with 15:55 remaining in the first half. The visitors led by as many as two possessions, but Harris floated in an over the shoulder layup and freshman Cameron Wolter (Fishers, Ind.) followed with a basket from down low to knot the score once again, this time 16-16, at 12:42.

Boston University added a quick, 7-2 spurt to make it a five-point game, and although Livingston hit a triple to cut the difference to just one, the Terriers led, 29-23, with 7:22 to go in the first. Play remained closely-contested throughout the period, as a crucial three from Harris made the score 32-31 at 4:13. The teams alternated buckets in the waning minutes, giving BU a 38-35 edge heading into the break.

The Terriers outscored the home squad, 11-4, in the opening minutes of the second half, building their largest advantage of the night at 47-39. However, UMass Lowell changed the momentum with 10 consecutive points, including three-point jumpers from Harris and Livingston, to take their first lead in 22 minutes of action.

After the River Hawks created a four-point buffer, BU answered with 10 in a row of their own, pulling back in front, 63-57, with just over nine minutes left. UMass Lowell battled, though, using a 9-2 stretch that was capped off by back-to-back, pull-up jumpers from sophomore Logan Primerano (Peru, Ind.) to turn the score in their favor, 66-65, at 4:48. The aggressiveness then continued as the clock ran down with two more stalemates setting up Thomas' final make.

Justin Alston notched a game-high 24 points for BU. Kyle Foreman totaled seven boards.

Wednesday's contest marked the fifth meeting between UMass Lowell and Boston University in the sport of men's basketball. The Terriers still lead the all-time series, 3-2. The River Hawks will play one more game before the holiday break when they travel to Loyola (Md.) for a 1 p.m. tilt on Friday, December 23.
