River Hawks Host Colgate & Travel to Bryant Before Holidays

LOWELL, Mass. --
The UMass Lowell women's basketball team hosts the Colgate Raiders prior to a road contest at Bryant, before a 10-ay break for the holidays. The tilt against Colgate will be the third game at the Tsongas Center this season, and final non-conference action at the arena.

Last Time Out
Oda Shackelford (Edinburgh, Ind.) set a career high with 11 points and Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) led the River Hawks with 14 points, but UMass Lowell fell to the Holy Cross Crusaders, 62-47, on December 10. Asia Mitchell-Owens (Roxbury, Mass.) dished out six assists and Megan Hendrick (Alexandria, Va.) recorded a career-high three steals in the effort.

Leading the Flock
In the midst of reaching double-digits in seven consecutive games, Kayla Gibbs leads the team with 11.8 points, and is snagging a team-high 6.2 boards per game, while Tyshay Britten (Norristown, Pa.) has a team-high seven blocks. Asia Mitchell-Owens have 24 total assists to rank atop the team, and Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) has dished out 20 helpers. UMass Lowell is shooting at a 37.9 percent clip (186-491) from the field, and connecting on 44-of-160 (27.5%) from three-point range.

Scouting Colgate
The Raiders (3-6) have won their past two games, following their 76-71 win against Towson, and more recently a 76-61 win against LIU Brooklyn on December 10. Katie Curtis is the only scorer in double figures, averaging 11.7 points per game, while Mylah Chandler has grabbed 7.2 rebounds per contest and adds 12 blocks. Curtis also leads the squad with 23 assists and 13 steals. As a unit, Colgate is 222-of-538 (41.3%) from the field, and 53-of-149 (35.6%) from beyond the arc.

Scouting Bryant
The Bulldogs (4-5) host Maine before the River Hawks head to Rhode Island, and are losers of their last two games including a 68-62 setback against Massachusetts on December 10. Bryant is led by Alex Klein's 16.7 and Ivory Bailey's 12.1 points per game. Klein also tops the squad with 8.7 rebounds per game, while Kierra Palmer is dishing out 4.4 helpers per game. The Bulldogs are connecting on a 37.9 percent (191-504) clip from the floor, and are only shooting 37-of-139 (26.6%) from three-point range.

Series History
This will mark the first meeting between Colgate and the River Hawks in women's basketball, while the Bulldogs hold a 21-12 edge in the all-time series, including a 2-1 mark in Division I.

Free Points
The River Hawks went 20-of-22 (90.9%) from the free throw line at Columbia. That was the most free throws UMass Lowell has hit in a single game since going 21-of-26 against UMBC in 2014.

H Squared for Three!
The sharpshooting duo of Megan Hendrick and Nicole Hayner have combined for 32 of UMass Lowellís 44 three-pointers, shooting 32.6 percent from beyond the arc. Hendrickís five triples at Towson were the most in a single contest since Hayner hit five last season against Maine. In 2015-16 Hayner led the team with 46 three-pointers and a 39.7 percentage. She ranked third in the America East with in percentage and fourth in triples made per game with 2.0.

Do You Even Bench?
Through 10 games, the River Hawksí reserves have scored 200 points and have outscored the opponentsí bench five times. Last season the River Hawksí bench scored 341 points, and outscored opponents 12 times.

The River Hawks have used five different starting lineups through the first 10 games of the season.

Spreading the Wealth
The River Hawks have had three players with 10 or more point in three of their last five contests. Last season, the River Hawks had 13 games with three or more scorers in double figures. In three of the 13, UMass Lowell had four players with 10 or more points. 

Sharing Is Caring
Through 10 games, the River Hawks have recorded 115 assists to average 11.6 per game. In the season-opener at Towson, the River Hawks dished out 20 assists, led by Katherine Smithís career-high six. Last seasonís team only had 20 or more helpers in one game, in the final game at UAlbany.
