LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart, 3-1, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center on Senior Day. the set scores were 22-25, 25-21, 23-25 and 23-25.
The loss drops the River Hawks record to 6-20 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 19-7 overall on the season.
"I am really proud of the ladies, I told them after the game that it was one of the first matches that if I didn't look at the score, I wouldn't know who was winning, because they played every point for that point and they played so hard," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "They played very smart and confidently, I am proud of the seniors, they all played remarkably."
UMass Lowell was led offensively by freshman outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) who registered a team-high 14 kills and a career and match-high 21 digs. Freshman
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and sophomore outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) chipped in with 12 and nine kills, respectively. Bell also recorded four total blocks. Senior setter
Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) managed 41 assists quarterbacking the River Hawks' offense.Â
On the defensive side of the court, sophomore libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) amassed 19 digs and senior middle blocker
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) and senior middle blocker
Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.) posted five total blocks. Bennett needs just one block to become the ninth player in team history with a 100-block season.
The River Hawks posted a match-high 14 kills and .195 hitting percentage in the opening set. Ahzi and Toth came up with a big block for the River Hawks to take the second set and tie the match at 1-1.

The River Hawks return to action on Friday, November 11th at UMBC. Game time from the RAC Center is 7 p.m.
