Lowell, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (5-9-2, 3-5-0 AE) saw their second half efforts fall just short in a 2-1 setback against Dartmouth (7-6-2, 0-4-2 Ivy) Sunday night at Cushing Field.

"Dartmouth is a good opponent, they are always looking to play," said Head Coach Joel Bancroft. "It was nice to have our senior day against them. We knew we were in for a good match and true to form, how poetic was it to end our last game on a one goal affair. We have had about 11 games this year either won or lost by one goal. We improved as the game went on and if you look at the stats we outshot them in the second half and put up a goal early. We got to run a play towards the end of the game but it just didn't go our way."

Prior to the game, the team's five seniors were honored in a special pregame ceremony, as the program celebrated it's first class to play all four years at the Division I level.

The River Hawks wrapped up their 2016 campaign with their best winning percentage (.353) of the DI era. The squad saw other improvements as well, as UMass Lowell's defense held their opponents to 21 goals on the year compared to the 39 allowed in 2015.

Dartmouth jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a strike from the top of the box in the 19th minute. Holly Patterson lead the Big Green to a dominate first half, as her team outshot the host squad, 6-3, while racking up two corner opportunities to the River Hawks zero.

Freshman Courtney Coleman (Antioch, Ill.) gave her team a surge after blasting a shot from the top of the box that rung top shelf for the equalizer. Coleman tallied her second tally of the season in the 57th to convert on her lone shot of the night.

The home team held the offensive edge in the second half of play, outshooting the visitors, 9-4, while earning two corner kicks. Despite outplaying the Big Green, Patterson struck again with just over 10 minutes to play to lift Dartmouth to a 2-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted four saves in the loss while her counterpart recorded two on the night.

"I am super proud of the team this year," explained Bancroft. "We qualified for playoffs and finished in the top six in our conference. Defensivly we allowed our fewest goals against and on top of that, all of our starters return. You always want to end the season on a win, but our performances the last two weeks are a glimpse to what the future is for this program."
