BURLINGTON, Vt. – Freshman Anouk Lalande (Brussels, Belgium) and junior Christa Doiron (Worcester, Mass.) each logged four points to lead the UMass Lowell field hockey team (6-6, 2-1 AE) to a 3-2 victory at Vermont (6-7, 0-3 AE) on Sunday afternoon.
 
"The team adopted a winning mindset for this entire weekend and they weren't going to settle for anything less," said Head Coach Shannon Hlebichuk. "They had to battle hard today against a very tough UVM team to earn this win."
 
The River Hawks have now won three consecutive games, including a pair of America East Conference contests. The decision also gives the squad its most league wins in a single season at the Division I level.
 
Lalande tallied a pair of goals in the outing, while Doiron recorded one goal and two assists. Sophomore Torrie Huk (Milford, Del.) picked up one assist of her own, as well. Freshman goalkeeper Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) turned away four shots on goal en route to improving to 4-0 so far in 2016.
 
The teams alternated chances early in the contest. Lalande registered a good chance for the River Hawks on a breakaway in the opening minutes, sending a high shot right at the opposing keeper, but it was batted away.
 
Vermont tallied the first goal of the day, when Anne-Marie Farmer slipped a shot from the top of the circle inside the left post.
 
However, the River Hawks were quick to retaliate with back-to-back goals. Doiron first finished off an initial shot from Huk before Lalande broke away from the defense and put a ball on target less than a minute later, giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage at the break.
 
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Tess O'Brien netted a goal for the Catamounts on a helper from Lauren Tucker to knot the score at 2-2. Lalande answered once again for UMass Lowell, though, notching what would eventually become the game-winning goal in the 54th minute.
 
Sunday's matchup marked the 15th meeting between UMass Lowell and Vermont in the sport of field hockey. The Catamounts still own an 11-3-1 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1986. The River Hawks return to action on Friday, October 14 when they welcome UAlbany to Lowell for a 4 p.m. tilt.
