LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team will close out it's 2016 conference schedule with its lone contest this week. The team will square off against New Hampshire on Sunday, October 23 at 4 p.m. at Cushing Field as part of Homecoming weekend.
Looking at UMass Lowell
The River Hawks enter Sunday's contest 4-9-2 overall and 2-5-0 in America East action after dropping a pair of decisions last week. UMass Lowell is looking to snap a three-game skid after being shutout by Hartford (10.13) and Binghamton (10.16), 2-0 and 1-0, respectively, in its most recent matches. Junior Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) paces the club in points and goals, tallying seven and three, respectively, in addition to tacking on an assist. Through 15 games so far this season, UMass Lowell has produced 10 different point scorers, six of who have found the back of the net at least once this fall. Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) owns the majority of decisions in the net thus far, starting 13 of the team's 15 games and compiling a 3-9-1 record, while boasting a 1.14 goals against average, a .826 save percentage, 71 saves and three shutouts.
Scouting New Hampshire
The Wildcats (6-6-3, 3-2-1 AE) are coming off of a 0-2-0 week after dropping a pair of overtime matches last week. New Hampshire was defeated in a thrilling, 2-1 overtime loss at UAlbany on Oct. 13 before being edged, 1-0, in double overtime at Maine on Oct. 16. Forward Brook Murphy leads the league in points (21), goals (9) and goals per game (.69), as the junior looks to help her team snap a three-game skid. Senior goalkeeper Mimi Borkan owns every decision in the net thus far as her 92 saves are good for first in the conference. With only two regular season games remaining, Borkin is boasting a 1.07 goals against average, a .884 save percentage and four shutouts.
Series History
Sunday's contest will mark just the fourth meeting between the two squads in the sport of women's soccer. The Wildcats have been perfect so far as UMass Lowell looks to grab its first win in the series. The River Hawks trail 0-3-0 in the all-time series which began in 2013.
Newcomer Notables
Freshman midfielder Courtney Coleman (Antioch, Ill.) notched her first goal of the season on Oct. 9 against Stony Brook. Sophomore transfer Jaymee Luke (Las Vegas, Nev.) netted her first tally in a River Hawks kit with a game-winning goal that defeated UAlbany, 1-0, on Sept. 25. Freshman forward Maddie Cheney (Bow, N.H.) added her first point as a River Hawk with an assist against Stetson on August 26. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Huff (Brandon, Fla.) picked up her first career-win and shutout with a 1-0 victory against Bryant on Sept. 12 after tallying six saves in the outing.
