Kory Falite To Be Inducted Into Legends of Lowell Hockey

LOWELL, Mass. – Former UMass Lowell hockey player Kory Falite (2006-10), a 100-point scorer, has been named a "Legend of Lowell Hockey" and will be honored during Homecoming Weekend, Saturday, October 22, against Clarkson at the Tsongas Center.

"The Legends of Lowell Hockey will convene again this year to bring together the past and present of Lowell Hockey," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin.  "We congratulate our lone inductee Kory Falite who will be honored as part of Homecoming activities. He was one of our best and will be recognized as such. We look forward to welcoming back Kory and his family to the Tsongas Center this weekend."

Falite will be honored on the ice during second intermission and at the Riley Reunion post-game festivities in the Talon Club.  The "Legends of Lowell Hockey" honors those who played a key role on the ice in the growth of the university's hockey program.

"UMass Lowell hockey has a storied history, with many tremendous hockey players to come through.  I am humbled to be mentioned alongside some of the best to play at UML and I will always cherish the memories made during my years there," said Falite.  "I would like to thank my friends, coaches, teammates, the loyal River Hawk fans and my family for all the support they have and continue to give me, without them I would never be able to live out my dreams."

Falite was a hard skating forward with a booming shot from the wing.  He scored 60 goals and 106 points during his four year career as a River Hawk.  The Billerica native led the team in goals in each of his four seasons in a River Hawk uniform.  Thirteen of his 60 goals were game winners.  Falite scored 18 goals in both his sophomore and senior seasons.  No one has scored as many as 18 goals in a season since.  He is one of two players, during the Division I era, to lead the team in goals in four consecutive seasons.  "Legends" member Ed McGrane is the other.

UMass Lowell had a record of 63-70-17 during Falite's four years including a 20 win season during his junior year as the River Hawks went to the Hockey East Championship Game.  The team added another 19 wins during his final year.

Falite was at his best in Hockey East competition.  He was in the top ten in goals in three of his four seasons and led the league in goals during his sophomore season with 15 leaving better known names such as Nathan Gerbe, Nick Bonino and James van Riemsdyk behind.

Falite's finest game in a UMass Lowell may have been against New Hampshire, on November 14, 2008, when he had his only collegiate hat trick.  The three goals and an assist helped propel the River Hawks to an 8-3 victory.
