LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team continues its America East slate on the road, taking on the Maine Black Bears on January 11 at 7 p.m.

Looking at the River Hawks
The River Hawks dropped their America East home opener, 64-50, against Stony Brook on Jan. 9. UMass Lowell opened up a 13-4 lead heading into the second quarter, but Stony Brook battled back and took a 29-26 edge at halftime. Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season. Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) added 11 points and Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) recorded her 500th career point.

Leading the Flock
The UMass Lowell offense is led by four players averaging double-digits this season. Doucette is leading the way with 14.6 points, and 9.6 rebounds per game. Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) is scoring 12.8 points per game with 8.3 rebounds, while Hayner is scoring 10.5 points. Asia Mitchell-Owens (Roxbury, Mass.) rounds out the group with 10.4 points per game, connecting on 41.7 percent (25-60) of her three-point attempts. Frase and Mitchell-Owens lead the team with 36 assists to facilitate the offense. On the defensive side of the ball, Doucette has eight blocks and 19 steals. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 318-of-819 (38.8%) from the field and 32.0 percent (79-247) from three-point range.

Scouting Maine
The Black Bears, who are 11-6 and 2-0 in the America East, have won two consecutive games, including defeating UMBC, 65-55, on Jan. 9. Sigi Kolzar is leading the offense with 17.1 points and 4.0 assists per game. Liz Wood is adding 9.1 points per game and grabbing a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game, while registering 2.6 steals. Kolzar is also connecting on 42.4 percent (39-92) of her three-point attempts. As a squad, Maine is shooting 42.8 percent (393-918) from the field, and 110-of-360 (30.6%) from long range.

Series History
The Black Bears lead the series, 4-0. Maine defeated UMass Lowell, 74-46, in the teams' last meeting on Feb. 11, 2015.

Always a Threat from Deep
As a unit, the River Hawks lead the league shooting 32.0 percent from downtown, and are third averaging 5.6 makes per game. Last season, UMass Lowell led the league in three-point shooting with a 33.2 3FG% and averaged 6.8 makes per game.

Balling in the America East
The River Hawks lead the conference with a .743 free throw percentage, and sit in third averaging 61.2 points and 13.1 offensive rebounds per game. The team ranks fourth in the conference with 11.6 assists per game and rebounding margin (+1.3).

Spreading the Wealth
The River Hawks have had eight games with three or more scorers in double figures. In three of the seven, UMass Lowell has had four players with 10 or more points.

Controlling the Glass
So far this season the River Hawks have outrebounded their opponents in nine games, including a five-game streak from November 28-December 9. UMass Lowell held a 41.8 (209) to 33.2 (166) advantage throughout the run.

Frase registered her 500th career point against Stony Brook (1.9) … Oda Shackelford (Edinburgh, Ind.) made her debut at Fairleigh Dickinson and scored eight points … Doucette's 17 rebounds against FIU is the second-best single game performance in the America East this season … Nazarae Butler (Columbus, Ohio) and Katherine Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind.) made first collegiate starts at Rhode Island … Frase snagged her 100th and 101st career rebounds against Columbia … Butler and Smith made their collegiate debuts against No. 6 Maryland.
