HighlightsLOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team dropped both of an America East doubleheader against Stony Brook on Saturday, falling 5-3 in the opener before a 9-3 defeat at LeLacheur Park.

In game one, the River Hawks (14-25, 10-9) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead. Â
Kelly Rooney (Upton, Mass.) led off the inning, and moved to third when
Matthew Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.) singled and the right fielder bobbled the ball.
Danny Mendick (Rochester, N.Y.) capitalized on the opportunity and doubled to left field to drive home two runs. UMass Lowell took the lead during the next at bat when
Jimmy Ricoy (Lowell, Mass.) singled to left.
The Seawolves (28-14, 15-4) knotted up the score in the next frame on a sacrifice fly and scored the decisive run in the top of the sixth.

Freshman
Andrew Ryan (Rochester, Mass.) took the loss in the opener and falls to 2-2 on the season.

The Seawolves jumped on
Kevin Veilleux (Manchester, N.H.) in the backend, scoring a pair of runs in the first. Mendick knocked in Sanchez on a ground out to second to cut the deficit in half before SBU scored seven unanswered.

The River Hawks had a chance to jump ahead with a bases loaded opportunity in the second inning, but failed to capitalize as Sanchez grounded out. It wasn't until the seventh inning that the River Hawks added another two runs, scoring on an RBI double to left by
Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) and a ground out from
Brice Erickson (Leominster, Mass.).

The teams will play the series finale tomorrow on senior day at 1 p.m. The River Hawks' eight seniors will be recognized in a pregame ceremony prior to first pitch.
