Box Score (PDF) Medeiros Interview CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team dropped its final non-conference game, 12-1 to Harvard on Wednesday night.
"I'm really proud of our effort tonight, Harvard is a really strong team with some great athletes," said Head Coach
Carissa Medeiros. "I thought we really stepped up defensively especially compared to last game. All the girls out there made really good adjustments, I was really impressed wit everything.
The River Hawks' (0-16) defense held the Crimson (7-7) scoreless until the 11:08 mark of the first half, when Audrey Todd sent a shot to the back of the twine. Harvard doubled its lead almost two minutes later.
The Crimson used two goals in the final 2:52 to enter the break with a 5-0 lead.
Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) made seven saves in the first half, including a few point blank stops.
Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) used her 11th goal of the season to get UMass Lowell on the board with 16:02 remaining in the second half.
Jesse Jay (Amherst, N.H.) sent a pass from behind the net, Sokol started to fall as she caught the ball and her shot beat Meredith Brown.
Barrett finished the game with 13 saves, two shy of tying her career-high.
Kelly Weis earned the win for Harvard, making one save in 30 minutes of play. Brown made two saves in 16:31 of relief, and Olivia Gundrum played 13:29.
Three Crimson players scored two goals apiece; Julia Glynn and Eliza Guild each added an assist for three points.
The River Hawks will wrap up their inaugural season, under the lights, at Stony Brook on April 25. The opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
