LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team fell to Manhattan College, 10-6, at Wicked Blue Field Sunday afternoon.

"This one stung a little bit, we more definitely hoping to get a win today. Manhattan's goalie played outstanding, we were getting a lot more shots off and she was coming up with a lot of key saves," said Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "It was reversing our momentum, big credit to them, they came and played hard. A lot of things didn't go our way today, which seems to be a trend lately, but our girls are pushing through."

The Jaspers (2-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes, before Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored her team-high sixth goal of the season for the River Hawks (0-5) with 12:42 on the clock. The midfielder took a pass from Jesse Jay (Amherst, N.H.) and fired a high shot past Christina Fiorinelli.

After Manhattan added a man-up goal, Devon McKercher (Vestal, N.Y.) sent a low shot into the net with 7:20 left in the half, cutting the deficit to 4-2 heading into halftime.

Kara Hodapp scored 59 seconds into the second half and Kaitlyn Cunningham scored with 27:37 on the clock, to open up a 6-2 lead.

Kaylan DiModugno (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored her first career-goal on a free-position shot with 25:55 remaining in the half. The Jaspers responded by scoring four straight in a span of 11:04 to extend the lead to 10-3, Donna Jo DiNorcia led the charge with two tallies.

Jay scored two goals within three minutes to stop the Manhattan run and cut the lead to 10-5. Her fourth and fifth goals of the season were assisted by McKercher and Erin Hatch (Billerica, Mass.), respectively.

Sokol added her second goal of the game and seventh of the season with 30 seconds left to close out the scoring.

Jay and Cunningham had a game-high four points, each recording two goals and two assists. DiNorcia scored three goals to lead both teams.

Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) made 11 saves on 21 shots, and Fiorinelli stopped 14 shots.

UMass Lowell travels to Siena to take on the Saints on March 11 at 3 p.m.
