River Hawks Set to Visit Temple

LOWELL, Mass. – Following a 1-1 week, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-1) hits the road for the first time this season when they visit the Temple Owls (4-0) on Saturday, February 21. The opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

LAST TIME OUT
Redshirt freshman Chiara Pompei (Catonsville, Md.) scored twice, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-1) battled but ultimately fell to the #15 Yale Bulldogs (1-0), 14-4, on Saturday afternoon. Pompei, who has now scored two goals in back-to-back games, was tied with junior Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.), who also tallied two scores. Also recording a point in the match, junior Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) and freshman Ada Krupa (East Irondequoit, N.Y.) both added an assist. In net, junior Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made six saves.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through three games, Bowers paces the squad with ten points and nine goals. Right behind her, senior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) posts a team-best four assists alongside three goals for seven points. Leading the squad on the draw, sophomore Georgia Ruscitti (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman Brienne Brezynskie (Elmira, Ontario) each total seven draw controls, while sophomore Madison Carter (Baltimore, Md.) leads the defense with six caused turnovers. In net, Kuhn not only posts 23 saves, but leads her team with seven ground balls collected, so far.

WEEKLY WINNERS
After a pair of excellent performances in week one, Kuhn was named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week while Brezynskie was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Week. Against the Jaspers, Kuhn started her season strong in net, allowing only six goals while making 11 saves on 28 shots faced, good for a .647 save percentage and her 17th career double-digit save performance. Meanwhile, Brezynskie left her mark in her first collegiate game, posting a hat trick, including the game-winner. Not only impressing on the offensive end, but she also filled up the box score all over the field, tallying two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls enter Saturday's match with a perfect 4-0 record, most recently taking down Rider, 16-6. They are led offensively by Lexi Culp, who has totaled 12 goals and seven assists, both team-highs, for 19 points. Not far behind, Amelia Wright and Sabrina Martin both have scored 10 goals while adding an assist each. Martin has been a standout on both ends of the field, leading the team with 10 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers, while also ranking third on the squad with eight draw controls. In net, the Owls have split time between two goalies, with Riley Horoshko earning the majority of playing time, making 32 saves while allowing 18 goals, good for a .640 save percentage, in 161 minutes of action.

This marks the first matchup between the River Hawks and Owls.
