LOWELL, Mass. – Donning a UMass Lowell jersey for the final time, seniors Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) combined for 30 points en route to a 60-51 victory over NJIT at Costello Athletic Center.

McRoy scored a game-high 16 points while Samuels added 14 as the River Hawks finished the 2014-15 season as winners of their last three and an overall record of 14-15 with a 7-9 mark in America East play. The Highlanders had their two-game win streak snapped and fall to 12-17 overall.

NJIT scored the opening six points before the River Hawks countered with 11 unanswered. Junior guard Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) hit a wing three to pull within a point before Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) gave the River Hawks their first lead at 7-6, a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

The River Hawks who shot 40 percent from the field and held the Highlanders to 30.8 percent in the first half, used a 13-5 spurt over the final four minutes to take a 34-23 lead at halftime.

McRoy's two treys in the game held historical significance as they placed her 10^th on the programs list for career three-pointers with 82. Her first points of the contest came on a left-corner three in the first half, tying her with Laurie Mann, before another corner three –this time from the right side- gave her sole possession of tenth.

The River Hawks shut down Alyssa Albanese and Leah Horton, the Highlanders scoring leaders, as the duo was held to 12 points. The two had entered the contest averaging a combined 20.1 points a game but made just six of their 20 attempts form the field. Horton finished with 10 points while Martina Matejcikova scored a team-high 13 for NJIT.

The senior guards shared the special moment every senior looks forward to, getting subbed out one last time to a round of applause from those in attendance with 12 seconds left.

Samuels finished her career with 836 points while McRoy scored 736.

Gibbs and fellow forward Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) each came one basket short of a double-double as they finished with eight points. Doucette hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds while Gibbs grabbed 10.

Head Coach Jenerrie Harris finished her rookie season at the helm with the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history.
