LOWELL, Mass. -- The No. 11 UMass Lowell hockey team fell to No. 2 Boston University, 5-2, in front of 7,241 fans on Friday night at the Tsongas Center in Hockey East play.

"It was a good game for Boston University, it was a good half game for Lowell. I thought we played for half the game, unfortunately I'm not sure why," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "We were plagued by a few missed assingments and got behind early. We chased it and when you give anybody a lead in Hockey East, it's very difficult to come back from. We didn't quit, the third period was a positive. We scored a power play goal, so those were the positives."

The Terriers (18-4-4, 12-2-2) took the 1-0 lead 38 seconds into the game on a goal by Ahti Oksanen, who was unmarked in front off a faceoff. With 16:59 Boston University doubled the lead when Jack Eichel sent a pass to Evan Rodrigues, who tapped the puck, past Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) at the right post.

The same duo made it 3-0 with 11:44 on the clock, when Eichel found Rodrigues towards the left post and fed him in front of the open net. Rodrigues completed the hat trick at 18:09 of the second period.

The River Hawks (16-9-3, 9-6-2) got on the board during a 5-on-3 power play, when Adam Chapie's (Oxford, Mich.) pass from the left circle found C.J. Smith (Des Moines, Iowa) all alone at the bottom of the right circle and the one timer found its way past Boston University net minder Matt O'Connor.

Evan Campbell (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) scored his seventh goal of the season when his shot bounced off of O'Connor and into the net at 5:41 of the third.

Boston University regained its three-goal lead with 11:45 remaining in the third period when Matt Lane jammed home at loose puck to make it 5-2.

O'Connor made 27 saves for the win, and Boyle stopped 20 shots. Olli Kalkaja (Oulu, Finland) faced no shots in 11:45 of relief. BU went 1-for-4 on the power play, and the River Hawks went 1-for-5.

UMass Lowell will travel to Amherst to take on Massachusetts tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
