STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The UMass Lowell men's basketball team closed out its 2014-15 campaign with a 75-60 loss at Stony Brook (20-10, 11-4) on Wednesday evening. With the decision, the team finishes the year with a 12-17 overall record and a 6-10 mark in America East action.

Freshmen Lance Crawford (Davie, Fla.) and Matt Harris (Erie, Pa.) paced the River Hawks in the outing with 13 points apiece, while senior Chad Holley (New York, N.Y.) added 11 points of his own and tied a season high with six assists. Crawford and classmate Brad Schaub (Marlette, Mich.) pulled down five boards each to lead the squad on the glass, as well.

"We put in a lot of effort all year," said Head Coach Pat Duquette. "The guys played hard and made a good run at them in the second half to come back. We feel really good about our seniors and we didn't give up tonight, mostly because of the character that they brought and the leadership they provided. Stony Brook is much bigger than us and they shot the ball well from the outside. We got the rhythm of the game going our way in the second half, though, and if we hit a couple more shots, I think it could've been interesting."

The River Hawks took the early advantage with five quick points from Schaub to open the game. Sophomore Tyler Livingston (Hudson, N.H.) and Holley then knocked down back-to-back threes to give UMass Lowell an 11-4 edge with 15:28 remaining in the first half.

The Seawolves worked to close the gap, but visitors would maintain at least a three-point margin for the next five minutes until SBU put together a 15-0 run to take the upper hand, 25-16, at 8:54.

Junior Mark Cornelius (Westford, Mass.) floated in a layup to break the silence for the River Hawks, although the home squad extended its margin to double-digits with seven consecutive points. In the waning minutes of the period, graduate student Marco Banegas-Flores (Boston, Mass.) hit a jumper from beyond the arc and Crawford tallied five points before redshirt-senior Kerry Weldon (New York, N.Y.) added a pair of free throws, making the score 39-28 heading into the break.

After the Seawolves notched the first four points of the second half, Crawford drained a jumper for UMass Lowell. Later in the half, Harris sparked the visitors' offense to life thanks to three straight three-pointers, cutting the buffer to just eight, at 51-43 with 11:45 to go. However, SBU used an 11-5 spurt to pull away, 62-48 at 8:34.

The teams played evenly matched in the final minutes of the contest, with the Seawolves taking a slight, 13-12 scoring edge, en route to the 75-60 decision.

Jameel Warney led four double-digit scorers for Stony Brook with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Rayshaun McGrew also added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. As a team, SBU shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field.

Wednesday's contest marked the 12th meeting between UMass Lowell and Stony Brook in the sport of men's basketball. The Seawolves now lead the all-time series, 8-4.
