River Hawks Close Out 2014-15 Season at Stony Brook

The River Hawks, who are currently 12-16 overall and 6-9 in America East action, visit Stony Brook for their season finale on Wednesday at 7 p.m..

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Chad Holley posted a team-best 15 points, as UMass Lowell dropped a 76-60 decision against the University of New Hampshire on Senior Day at the Tsongas Center. Holley was one of three double-digit scorers for the River Hawks, as freshmen Matt Harris and Lance Crawford logged 11 and 10 points, respectively. Redshirt-senior Kerry Weldon and freshman Brad Schaub paced the team on the boards with five rebounds apiece.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through 28 games, redshirt-freshman Jahad Thomas leads the River Hawks with 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Lance Crawford has added to the offensive effort with 9.5 points, while Chad Holley averages 8.9 points, as well. Kerry Weldon helps the team on the glass with 4.6 rebounds per game. As a team, UMass Lowell is shooting 41.3% (592-1433) from the floor and 35.8% (214-598) from beyond the arc. The squad is also shooting 65.8% (322-489) from the line.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves sit in a second place tie in the America East standings at 10-4 and 19-10 overall. Jameel Warney leads the offense with 15.6 points per game. His 11.2 rebounds per game rank fifth in the nation. He also totals 18 double doubles, good for a first-place tie nationally. Carson Puriefoy is averaging 14 points per game, as well, with a team-high 3.6 assists per game. As a whole, Stony Brook is shooting 42% (694-1652) from the field and 32.8% (150-458) from three-point range.

ROOKIE RECORD
As of February 20, UMass Lowell was one of only four teams in the nation to have two freshmen as their top two scorers. The River Hawks are joined by the University of Central Florida, Binghamton and Fordham.

UNDER CONTROL
The River Hawks posted a season low for turnovers at Sacred Heart with just six. The team is currently first in the America East with a +1.8 turnover margin.  

SUPERIOR SUBS
At UMBC on Jan. 7, UMass Lowell's bench players outscored the Retrievers', 51-1, to help the team come back to earn the overtime victory. The River Hawks' reserves have been pivotal this year, outscoring their opponents, 621-483.

STEALING THE SHOW
The River Hawks are first in the AE with 7.0 steals per game. Graduate student Marco Banegas-Flores, who posted a career-high four steals at Rhode Island and Vermont, is third in the league with 1.9 per game and leads the team with 49 total.

A THREAT ON THREES
As a whole, UMass Lowell is second in the league with 7.6 3FGs per game. Matt Harris leads the team with 43.
