Kevin Veilleux (Manchester, N.H.) before their ninth inning rally fell short in a 11-9 loss to Georgia State at the GSU Sports Complex on Saturday.

After splitting the day's games, the River Hawks stand at 1-2 while the Panthers move to a record of 4-3.

Veilleux (1-0) yielded one run on two hits over six innings in his River Hawk debut and
Geoff DeGroot (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) hit a go-ahead single to left to score a pair in the first game. Trailing 1-0 after four innings, DeGroot stepped into the box with runners on second and third and one out before singling home
Nick Barry (Grafton, Mass.) and
Matthew Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.).

UMass Lowell added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. After
Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) drew a one-out walk,
Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) brought him home with a double to center field. Sanchez added an RBI single later in the frame to give the River Hawks a 4-1 advantage through six innings.

In the top of the eighth, Sanchez picked up his fourth hit and second RBI of the contest with a double for the fifth and final run of the game for the River Hawks.
Brendan Shea (Belmont, Mass.) pitched the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season and cross off the squads first win of the season.

The River Hawks nearly rallied back from an 11-3 ninth inning deficit in the backend of the double-header. After Georgia State reliever Alex Prescott loaded the bases,
Danny Mendick (Rochester, N.Y.) drew a walk to chase Prescott.
Jimmy Ricoy (Lowell, Mass.) hit a two-RBI double to left center before B.J. Foley (Sterling, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Mendick.
Brice Erickson (Leominster, Mass.) capped off the scoring with a two-RBI single to center.

Freshman
Nick Kuzia (Seymour, Conn.) picked up the loss in his first start, giving up six runs –all earned- on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.
