LAST TIME OUT: The River Hawks were held to a season-low on Wednesday, falling at Stony Brook 62-36. The River Hawks struggled on offense making 25.9 percent (15-58) of their attempts from the field and 14.3 percent (3-21) of their three-pointers. Neither team could find the range in the first half as SBU took a 15-13 lead at halftime before they poured in 47 points on 66.7 percent shooting after the break. Shannon Samuels finished with a team-high nine points and picked up three assists for the River Hawks.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: The Wildcats are 16-10 overall and 8-6 in America East play, and have won their last two games after a five-game losing streak. Elizabeth Belanger leads a trio of double-digits scorers with 13.2 points per game. Ariel Gaston and Kaylee Kilpatrick are scoring 10.2 and 10, respectively. Gaston leads the team with 3.5 assists per game. Belanger controls the glass, grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game. As a team UNH is shooting 41.7 percent (586-1404) from the field, and 28 percent (99-353) from three-point range.
ALL-TIME SERIES: UMass Lowell trails in the series 1-3 and looks to avenge a 58-51 loss to New Hampshire on January 19th. Guards Jasmie McRoy and Brianna Rudolph led the River Hawks with 10 points apiece for the River Hawks. The Wildcats were led by Elizabeth Belanger and Carlie Pogue who each scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Pogue added five blocks as well as two steals. The Wildcats turned 17 offensive rebounds into 20 points in the point in the last meeting. The River Hawks got contributions from their bench who outscored UNH, 22-13.
EARLY SUCCESS: The River Hawks 65-62 triumph at Hartford last Saturday was the teams 11th win of the season which moved first-year head coach Jenerrie Harris into sole possession of second place for most wins by a head coach in their first season. After passing Carol Mastacouris with 10 wins, Harris only trails Deborah Preis (12) for first.
GIBBS FIRST: River Hawks freshman Kayla Gibbs has picked up her first two career starts, getting back-to-back nods against Hartford and Stony Brook. The forward came out aggressive against the Hawks, scoring four of the teams eight points to start and finished the game with nine points and six rebounds. Gibbs finished with four points and two rebounds in an encore performance against the Seawolves.
WINDING DOWN: The River Hawks wind down their second season in the America East against Vermont on Thursday before concluding the 2014-15 campaign on March 3rd against NJIT.
SECOND NEST: The River Hawks are 4-3 all-time at the Tsongas Center and winnders of their last two after beating UMBC, 75-62 and Vermont most recently, 72-63. The win against UMBC was their first in the 6,111 seat arena since Dec. 11, 2010, when the River Hawks edged Merrimack 66-60. The team is scoring an average 67.8 points in the six games played there since the first during the 1999-00 season. Last year the team hosted two games at the Tsongas Center, falling to UNH, 75-68, and Stony Brook, 79-68.
UNDER THE LIGHTS: Playing on a bigger stage than Costello Athletic Center, their more common homecourt, the River Hawks have averaged 70.8 points per game in four games at the Tsongas Center over the past two seasons.
