LAST TIME OUT:Â The River Hawks dropped their second in a row Wednesday night after falling at home to Maine, 74-46. Stymied by the top defensive squad in the AE, the River Hawks shot 29.4 percent and snapped a four-game streak of making seven or more three-pointers as the team went 5-for-20 from deep. Senior Jasmine McRoy scored nine of her team-high 14 points from beyond the arc while converting five-of-six from the charity stripe. Freshman Jontay Walton sank the team's fourth triple in the games opening seven minutes to give the River Hawks a 16-14 edge before the Black Bears honed in on defense and went on a 31-6 run to break the game open.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:Â The Hawks dropped to 13-12 and 7-4 in America East play after falling to Maine 63-45. Amber Bepko (13.0), Cherelle Moore (12.6), and Deanna Mayza (10.7) lead the offense with double-digit scoring. McRoy and Doucette each added eight rebounds as the River Hawks outrebounded the Hawks 42-34. The Hawks started the game on a 14-5 run and didn't look back, pushing their lead to as many as 23 before the River Hawks began to chip away. Frase scored all 10 of her points and added a pair of assists as UML outscored Hartford 21-14 over the final nine minutes.
SPOILED TURNOVER: The River Hawks held a 16-19 edge in turnovers against Maine on Wednesday, which marked the first time this year they lost when taking better care of the ball than their opponent. The team is now 6-1 in those games.
HITTING THE ROAD: The River Hawks are 2-8 on the road and on the back-end of a four-of-five game stretch away from Lowell. The River Hawks split the first two games on the road, picking up a 84-78 win at UMBC before falling in Albany and most recently at home to Maine. Looking ahead, the team will split the final four games as they travel to Stony Brook and Vermont while hosting New Hampshire and NJIT.
FOUR IN DOUBLE-FIGURES: The River Hawks have had four or more players score in double-figures eight times this season, including in the first meeting against the Hawks. The loss against Hartford was the first of three as the River Hawks hold a 5-3 record in those games.
FRASE HEAT CHECK: Junior guard Melissa Frase made one three-pointer against Maine on Wednesday which ended her streak of two-straight games where she matched her career-high of three made from deep. She went 3-for-4 at Albany after gong 3-for-6 at UMBC but went 1-for-3 against the Black Bears. Frase has made 7-of-13 in the last three games.
THREES WILD: In the last 11 games the team has made six or more three-pointers nine times and has made more from deep then their opponents in eight of those contests.
