River Hawks Fall at Home to Maine, 74-46

LOWELL, Mass. – Stymied by the conference's best defense, the UMass Lowell women's basketball team fell to Maine, 74-46, at Costello Athletic Center Wednesday night.
 
Senior Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored nine of her team-high 14 points from beyond the arc as the River Hawks (10-14, 4-8) dropped their second in a row and had their two-game home win streak come to an end.
 
Liz Wood was one of four Black Bears to score in double-figures as she scored a game-high 21 points to help Maine climb to 18-6 overall with a 10-1 mark in league play.
 
The River Hawks started off hot from outside connecting on four triples over the opening seven minutes before the Black Bears locked in defensively.
 
Freshman Jontay Walton (Buffalo, N.Y.) sank the team's fourth triple in the opening seven minutes to give the River Hawks a 16-14 edge before the Black Bears honed in on defense. Maine responded with a 31-6 run to break the game open the game and take a 45-22 advantage at the half.
 
The River Hawks will head back on the road when they travel south to Hartford on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start.
