River Hawks Power Past Binghamton, 66-49

Lindsey Doucette notched her third career double-double against BU in four games.

LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman guard Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) sparked the UMass Lowell women's basketball team on a 16-2 run before halftime as the team handled Binghamton, 66-49, at Costello Athletic Center on Sunday.
 
The River Hawks (9-12, 3-6 AE) finished their three-game home stand winners of the last two, dropping the Bearcats to 4-18 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
 
Rudolph ignited the momentum-shifting run with the River Hawks ahead 17-16 with under six minutes remaining the in the opening half. On consecutive possessions, Rudolph drove strong along the left baseline for a layup, sank a wing three-pointer and added another layup to extend the River Hawks lead to eight. Junior Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) added four of her 16 points and Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) converted a three-point play before the half to cap off the run with the River Hawks up 33-18.
 
Doucette continued her individual success against the Bearcats notching her third double-double in four career games against BU, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) came up one rebound short of her own double-double, grabbing nine and scoring 10 points.
 
The Bearcats took their only lead on the opening bucket before the River Hawks countered with 10 unanswered and never looked back. UMass Lowell took advantage of nine first-half turnovers by Binghamton, turning the giveaways into 11 points and finished the game with 13. 

The Bearcats held the edge in points off turnovers, scoring 24 points on 15 River Hawk turnovers.
 
Samuels finished with 16 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists.
 
The River Hawks begin a stretch of four-of-five on the road Wednesday when they travel to UMBC for a 7 p.m. tip.
