AMHERST, Mass. –
Four River Hawks scored in double-digits, but the UMass Lowell (3-9) women's basketball team fell to the UMass Minutewomen, 84-58, in the teams' first ever meeting on Wednesday evening.

The contest wrapped up the non-conference schedule for the River Hawks, and was the final game of 2015 for the team.

"It was a good game by Massachusetts, they played a great game and their players came out and played hard for 40 minutes, shooting 54 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range," said Head Coach Jenerrie Harris. "They did an excellent job of executing their game plan, being agressive, and getting really good looks to score againts us and unfortunately we didn't match that."

Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored the first four points for the River Hawks and Asia Mitchell-Owens (Roxbury, Mass.) added a three-pointer to open up a 7-2 lead with 8:17 on the clock. The Minutewomen responded with a 17-2 run, taking an 18-9 lead into the second quarter.

To begin the second quarter, Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) ended the run with back-to-back traditional three-point plays to bring UMass Lowell within 20-15. The hosts went on another big run, 14-1, to take a 30-16 advantage. Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) then scored five consecutive points and Doucette added a pair to cut the deficit to 32-25 with 2:59 left in the half.

The Minutewomen scored six points in the last five seconds of the half, including a buzzer-beating three, to take a 48-30 lead into the locker room.

Gibbs, Hayner, and Mitchell-Owens reached double figures in the third quarter, with Gibbs heading into the fourth with a team-high 13 points. UMass outscored the River Hawks 24-17, as the hosts held a 72-47 advantage into the final quarter.

During the fourth quarter, Doucette became the fourth player in double-figures, and also recorded her fifth double-double of the season. The senior finished the contest with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds, and runs her streak of at 10 points to eight-straight games.

Gibbs chipped in 13 and grabbed eight boards, while Hayner added 12 points. Mitchell-Owens dropped in 11 and tied her career-high with seven assists to lead all players.

The Minutewomen were led by Cierra Dillard's 19 points and seven steals. Rashida Timbilla and Bria Stallworth scored 15 apiece, and Alyx Stiff added 12 points. Timballa grabbed eight rebounds and Stallworth dished out six assists.

UMass Lowell finishes its road swing, and begins America East play with a clash at Hartford on January 6, at 7 p.m.
