Talent: Scott Sudikoff (Play-by-Play)LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team hosts Boston University in the first Tsongas Center game of the season on Tuesday, December 1 at 7 p.m.
The UMass Lowell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the River Hawks have paired up for the game for Giving Tuesday. Fans are encouraged to donate a t-shirt or sweatshirt from another college to the Salvation Army. The first 50 donations will receive a River Hawk Nation t-shirt in return. Â
Looking at the River HawksThe River Hawks used a 10-0 run to take a 58-57 lead late in the third quarter, but Rhode Island pulled away for a 72-64 win on November 28. Four UMass Lowell players scored in double figures, including double-doubles by
Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) and
Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.). Gibbs hit for 14 points and a game-high 14 boards, while Doucette scored a team-high 16 points and snagged 10 rebounds.
Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) tallied a trio of three-pointers to finish with 15 points, and
Katherine Smith (Fort Wayne, N.J.) added a career-high 11 points in her first collegiate start.
Nazarae Butler (Columbus, Ohio) also made her first career start and dished out a career-high four assists.
Leading the FlockGibbs leads the offense this year with 15.4 points per game, and is grabbing 9.6 rebounds per game.
Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) is averaging 13.3 points and leads the team with 10 made long balls. On the defensive side of the ball, Doucette has four blocks, and Hayner has nine steals. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 108-of-303 (35.6 %) from the field and 28.1 percent (25-89) from three-point range.
Scouting Boston UniversityThe Terriers are riding a five-game losing streak, averaging just 46.2 points per game. They dropped their last game, 72-52, at Dartmouth on Nov. 28. Troi Melton is leading the offense with 10.0 points per game. Meghan Green is averaging 9.4 points and leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game. Courtney Latham leads the team with 11 assists. As a team, BU is shooting 34.2 percent (88-257) from the field and 15-of-76 (19.7%) from downtown.

The Terriers will be a challenge for us, as is everyone on our schedule, but we're still looking forward to going out there and leaving everything on the court.
Series HistoryBU holds a 3-1 series lead, but this will be the first meeting in the Division I era and the first since the 1978-79 season. UMass Lowell won the first matchup 61-47 in 1975-76, and the Terriers won the most recent game 74-44.
Ain't No Party Like a Tsongas Center PartyThe River Hawks are 5-3 all-time in games played at the Tsongas Center, with a 3-2 record in the Division I era. UMass Lowell is riding a three-game winning streak in the building, scoring 72.3 points per game in the steak. Overall, the River Hawks are averaging 68.8 points in the team's second home. This is the first non-conference game in the Tsongas for the women, and the first of four games this season.
