Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) scored 10 of her game-high 26 points in the second half as the UMass Lowell women's basketball team handled UMBC, 75-62, for its first America East Conference victory of the season at the Tsongas Center on Thursday.

Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) racked up 13 points and 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double. Senior
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) filled the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while connecting on all four of her three-point attempts.

UMass Lowell improves their record to 7-7 overall, and 1-1 in the America East following the battle between the two highest scoring offenses in the conference. The Retrievers drop to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in the America East.

The River Hawks trailed 19-12 with 8:08 remaining in the opening half when
Priscilla Dunphy (Barrington, R.I.) and McRoy sank back-to-back triples, sparking the River Hawks on a pivotal 25-to-8 run to close out the first half.

Aside from the 26 points she poured in, Samuels matched
Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) with a game-high 12 rebounds while setting career-high's in free throws made (16) and attempted (17). Gibbs scored all eight of her points in the second half with Doucette on the bench in foul trouble.

The River Hawks held the Retrievers' Capree Garner, the AE's second leading scorer, to 19 points on just 8-of-23 shooting, including 0-for-7 from outside.

UMass Lowell will continue conference play on Sunday when they host Albany for a 2 p.m. tip at Costello Athletic Center.
