LOWELL, Mass. – Stony Brook's Sabre Proctor converted a contested layup with 15 seconds left to lift the Seawolves to a 64-60 victory against the UMass Lowell women's basketball team at Costello Athletic Center on Thursday night.

Senior Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) was one of four River Hawks (7-12, 1-6 America East) to reach double-figures as she poured in a team-high 14 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Freshman Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) scored all 13 of her points in the first half, going a perfect four-for-four from the field and making all five free throws.

The River Hawks and Seawolves (10-9, 3-3 America East) went back-and-forth throughout the game as the squads exchanged the lead 12 times and drew even 13, while Stony Brook took the largest lead of five. UMass Lowell kept the pressure on, cutting the SBU lead to a single-point five times in the final five minutes but couldn't convert the go-ahead bucket.

McRoy sank a trey from the left wing to bring the River Hawks to within 44-46 and would add a three-point play two possessions later to put the River Hawks ahead 48-46.

Stony Brook's Chris Scognamiglio hit a corner three to put SBU up 54-50 before Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) converted a three-point play of her own, off a steal by McRoy to once again pull the River Hawks within one.

Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) scored five of her 12 points in the final two minutes, dialing up a three before calmly sinking a pair of free throws with under a minute to cut the deficit to a single point each time.

The River Hawks will host Vermont on ESPN3, at the Tsongas Center on January 25 at 4:30 p.m., in their second straight doubleheader with the men's basketball team.
