River Hawks Start Home Stretch Against Hartford

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: The River Hawks are coming off their second straight loss, a 68-54 decision at Maine. Senior Shannon Samuels scored a game-high 19 points and forward Lindsey Doucette narrowly missed her third consecutive double-double, finishing with eight points and tying her season-high with 11 rebounds. The River Hawks, the highest scoring offense in the AE, were limited to 54 points and forced into 23 turnovers (26 Pts off) by the league best defense. The Black Bears held the River Hawks scoreless for nearly seven minutes in the first half to open a 36-26 lead at the break and pushed their lead to as many as 19.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS: The Hawks are looking to win their third America East game after losing their first to Maine, 68-57. Hartford currently sits at 8-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Led by Cherelle Mooreís 13.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Amber Bepko and Deanna Mayza are also in double figures, scoring 12.6 and 10.4, respectively. Mayza leads the conference with 89 assists, averaging 5.2 per game. As a team the Hawks are shooting 37.6 percent (349-929) from the field, and at a 29.9 percent clip (112-375) from three-point range.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The River Hawks and Hawks met for the first time last season with Hartford taking both contests. Jasmine McRoy posted a then career-high 26 points in the first matchup but her teams attempt to comeback from a 16-point halftime deficit fell short in a 80-76 final. Lindsey Doucette finished with a 17-point and 11-rebound double-double while Shannon Samuels scored 19 with nine assists.

Hartford shot 57.1 percent in the second half en route to a 80-64 victory at home. The River Hawks trio of Doucette, McRoy and Samuels once again led the team, all scoring in double figures.

AGAINST THE HAWKS: The trio of Shannon Samuels, Jasmine McRoy and Lindsey Doucette had some of their best performances against the Hawks last year. They combined for 62 of the teams 76 points in the first game and 56 of 64 points in the second game.

Doucette posted two of her seven double-doubles in 2013-14 against the Hawks and averaged 15.0 ppg to go with 11 rpg. McRoy posted a then season-high 26 points in the first matchup and followed that with 24 points in the second while grabbing seven rebounds per. Samuels averaged 19.0 ppg and dished out a career-high nine assists.

COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME: The River Hawks will play four of the next five games at home where they hold a 6-3 record. Hartford will lead things off before the River Hawks travel to New Hampshire on Monday. Stony Brook, Vermont and Binghamton will finish up the stretch of games in Lowell. The games against the Seawolves and Catamounts will be double-headers with the menís basketball team with the UVM games being played at the Tsongas Center.

TURNING UP THE D: After picking up 10 steals against Albany, the River Hawks have 10+ steals in three of the last four games. The team set their season-high of 12 in their AE opener at Binghamton. The team has picked up 47 steals (9.4 spg) over the last five games after swiping 77 steals (6.7 spg) in the first 10 games when they broke double-figures just twice.
