HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 5 ranked UMass Lowell hockey team was defeated by UConn, 2-0, in Hockey East action on Saturday night at the XL Center in front of 6,855 fans.
With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 14-4-3 overall (7-1-2 HEA) and UConn improves to 7-10-4 overall (4-4-1 HEA) with the victory.
UConn's Jacob Poe scored the game's first goal on the power play at 10:40 of the second period on a wrist shot from the right point. Spencer Naas scored his ninth goal of the season with 1:44 left in the game to seal the win for the Huskies.
Junior forward
Robert Francis (San Diego, Calif.) hit two posts in the game, one in the first and one in the second frame, as he finished the game with two shots on goal in the losing effort for the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell sophomore forward
Evan Campbell (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) registered a game-high five shots on goal and went 9-for-16 (56%) from the faceoff dot.
The River Hawks went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Huskies went 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
Junior goaltender
Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) stopped 25 shots in his 16th start of the season, while Rob Nichols recorded 21 saves in his fourth career shutout minding the UConn net.
The River Hawks return to action on Friday, January 16th at Maine. Game time from Alfond Arena in 7 p.m. in Orono, Maine.
