The UMass Lowell softball team was held hitless in a 9-0 five-inning loss against Albany on Sunday at Albany Field.
 
Behind Brittany MacFawn's six strikeouts and Jess Tate's two homeruns, the Great Danes swept the three-game series from the River Hawks who fall to 9-34, and 1-13 in the America East. UAlbany climbs to 25-10 overall, and 11-3 in conference play.
 
The Great Danes got on the scoreboard early, scoring three first inning runs off Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.) and chased her after two innings. Handley's record dips to 5-16 on the season, while she failed to pick up a strikeout for just the third time in her 30 appearances.
 
Freshman Lauren Ramirez (Dracut, Mass.) didn't fare much better, surrendering four runs in the third inning as Charlise Castro hit a solo shot before Tate knocked a three-run homerun out.
 
The River Hawks will play game four of a six game road stretch tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Boston University.
