River Hawks Stumble in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The UMass Lowell softball team fell twice to St. Francis and once to La Salle in a tripleheader on Friday at Diamond Plex Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.

After being rained out of a doubleheader yesterday, the River Hawks (1-6) had a busy day out on the field and still have two doubleheaders in as many days.

In the first game the River Hawks accrued more hits than the Red Flash but scored less runs, ultimately falling 3-1. Junior Abby Jamieson (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the teams lone RBI, pushing in Kate Donovan in the fourth inning on a line drive to center.

Jamieson went 3-for-4 with three singles. Sophomore Brianna Martin finished a perfect 3-for-3, singling twice and added a double in the fourth.

Sophomore Marielle Handley went 4 1/3 innings, giving up six hits and allowing two earned runs. She also struck out one batter.

Freshman Erica Armenti (Shrewsbury, Mass.) got the nod for the River Hawks in the second game and gave up six earned runs while striking out four on her way to hurling a complete game.

The River Hawks lost 10-4 as the Explorers (3-7) jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning and added another in the second. UMass Lowell got on the board in the third inning with Martin coming home following an error by La Salle catcher Kristin Martin.

The River Hawks would add another run in the fourth off the bat of Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) who doubled to center, scoring Alisha Welch (Langley, British Columbia).

The team tried to rally back in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs on a single by freshmen Katie Keebler.

In the finale of the day the River Hawks faced St. Francis again, but were shutout this time around 4-0.
