NEWARK, N.J. – Juniors 
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) and 
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) combined to score 52 points, but the River Hawks fell, 87-75 to NJIT Tuesday night at the Fieisher Athletic Center, in Newark, N.J.
 
The River Hawks finish off its inaugural Division I season with a 5-23 record, 4-12 in the America East Conference tied for sixth place. NJIT improves to 8-20 and will play at Hofstra Saturday to close out its season.  
 
McRoy finished with a game-high 29 points, while Samuels ended the night with 23 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore 
Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished the night with eight points and 11 rebounds, just shy of her fourth straight double-double. Doucette had a game-high four steals.
 
With 8:26 remaining in the first half freshman 
Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) hit a three to give the River Hawks its last lead of the night at 23-22. The Highlanders would go on a 10-0 run, led by a pair of threes by Martina Matejcikova.
 
NJIT would take a, 44-39, lead into the locker room at halftime. 
 
 The River Hawks would cut it to a one point deficit at 48-47, 2:50 into the 2
nd half, but never could manage to get the go-ahead bucket as NJIT would eventually stretch the lead to double-digits.
 
The Highlanders shot 43.5% (10-23) from beyond the arc, while the River Hawks shot 17.4% (4-23). For the game NJIT shot 47.8% (32-67) and UMass Lowell shot just 35.3% (24-68).
 
NJIT had a 46-37 advantage on the boards, which led to 13-9 benefit on second chance points.
 
The River Hawks once again won the turnover battle, 15-9, and capitalized to score 19 points off turnovers. NJIT scored just five points off turnovers.
 
The Highlanders had three players in double-figures, led by junior Martina Matejcikova 27 points. Fellow classmate Alyssa Albanese scored 23 points. On senior night Shakia Robinson scored 15 and her 1,000 point of her career in the second half.
 
UMass Lowell shot 85.2% (23-27) from the free-throw line, while NJIT shot just 59.1% (13-22).
