The UMass Lowell softball team suffered a heartbreaking 12-9 loss in the second game of a doubleheader, and dropped both contests to Maine in their America East debut at River View Field on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 8-4 in the sixth inning, the River Hawks (4-15, 0-2 America East) scored five runs to take a one run lead, but the Black Bears (12-9, 4-1 America East) responded with four of their own and close it out in the seventh.

Sophomore
Brianna Martin (Methuen, Mass.) picked up two hits and three RBI in the second game but saw her nine-game hit streak come to an end in the opener as she went hitless in four at bats.

Junior
Ariana Darcy (Wallkill, N.Y.) knocked in a pair of RBI with a single in the fifth and finished the afternoon with three RBI.

Alisha Welch (Langley, British Columbia) was one of five River Hawks to pick up a hit. She registered two hits in three at bats.
