Following a nine-day gap between games, the UMass Lowell softball team will take to the diamond for a doubleheader against the University of Rhode Island at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in North Kingston, RI.

The River Hawks (3-12) will face a 5-16 Rams teams for the first meeting between the two programs.

The last time the River Hawks took the field was back on March 16th when they beat Coppin State handily 10-2 in the finale of the Coppin State tournament.

This year's squad is young and talented, and features seven freshmen. The freshman trio of
Alisha Welch (.348),
Tori Alcorn (.333), and
Emily O'Brien (.321) lead the team in batting average.

Brianna Martin leads the River Hawks in hits (14) and RBI (6) while hitting at a .318 clip.

Marielle Handley (2-6) will pitch the first game, while freshman
Lauren Ramirez (0-3) is slated to start the back-end of the doubleheader.
