Ferraro goes 1 for 3, with 2 RBI

Box Score
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Feb. 8, 2014) – The River Hawks softball team fell 9-3 to University of Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C. at the Hampton Inn Of Dunn Invitational.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 1-2 overall and meets Valparaiso University at 10:00 a.m. Sunday. IPFW improves to 3-0 and plays Campbell later on this afternoon.

Senior Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) had a two run home-run in the bottom of the fourth inning and junior Melissa King (Stamford, Conn.) knocked in the other RBI with a sac fly in the sixth inning.

"Ari Dacy continues to show why she is one of the best to wear a Umass Lowell uniform, as she is off to a great start, and our lone senior Ali Feraro has been locked in at the plate to start the season," said Head Coach Sean Cotter.

Junior Abby Jamieson (Billerica, Mass.) went 1-for-2 and scored two runs.

Sophomore P Marielle Handley (Durhame, Conn) took the loss as she allowed nine hits, seven runs, while striking out one over 2.0 innings. Freshman pitcher Erica Armenti (Shrewsbury, Mass.) came on for relief and pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four hits and two runs and stoke out two.

IPFW was led by the Bousqet's twins, Alex and Ashleigh who combined to go 4-for-9 with six RBI. Senior Megan Flenniken got the win after pitching five innings, allowing just two hits and two runs.

"IPFW was clearly the best team here, and went 4-0 on the weekend. 9-3 may look like a blow out, but I feel better about our team after today then I did yesterday. We did a much better job with the little things," said Cotter.
