AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore forward Michael Fallon (Glenview, Ill.) scored a career-high three points leading the No. 7 ranked UMass Lowell hockey team to a 5-3 victory at Massachusetts on Saturday night at the Mullins Center in Hockey East play.

With the victory, the River Hawks improve to 19-7-3 overall and 9-4-2 in conference action. UMass Lowell has now won eight straight games vs. the Minutemen, dating back to November 19, 2011.

"I really liked the way we killed that penalty in the third period, that was a huge penalty kill for us," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "We found a way to close out the game, I thought the last five minutes of the third were probably our best minutes of the night."

Fallon finished the night with a goal, two assists and four shots on goal. He now has five points (1g,4a) in his last three games for the River Hawks.

The River Hawks got out to a 4-0 lead in the first 22:52 of play on goals by Fallon, sophomore Adam Chapie (Oxford, Mich.), freshman Michael Kapla (Eau Claire, Wis.) and sophomore Michael Colantone (Cave Creek, Ariz.). Kapla's goal was the second of his collegiate career.

Ray Pigozzi, Conor Sheary and Adam Phillips all scored in the losing effort for the Minutemen with two of their three goals coming in the second frame. Sophomore forwar Ryan McGrath (O'Fallon, Mo.) scored the fifth and last goal for the River Hawks, his ninth of the season. McGrath totaled a team-high five shots on goal for UMass Lowell.

UMass Lowell registered 33 shots on the night, including 21 shots alone in the second period. Sophomore netminder Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Mich.) stopped 34 shots in his 11th win of the season. It marked the third straight game with 30 or more saves for Hellebuyck.
