The UMass Lowell men's basketball two game win streak came to an end at the hands of an Albany team who couldn't seem to miss. The Great Danes made 73.9% of their attempts in the first half to create enough separation to hold on to a  73-56 victory.

Senior Antonio Bivins (Miami, Fla.) became the fifth player in program history to score 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, scoring a team-high 17 points and grabbed the four rebounds he needed before fouling out.

The teams came into tonights action tied for third in the America East, but the loss dropped the River Hawks to 7-15 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

The Great Danes (12-11, 6-4) got started early hitting 13 of their first 17 attempts and finished the first half 17 of 23.

Albany sophomore Peter Hooley who missed the teams first meeting this year due to an injury made his presence felt scoring 15 of his game-high 21 in the first half. Hooley connected on six of the 10 3-pointers he attempted and was 7 of 12 from the field overall.
Akeem Williams (Brockton, Mass.) scored nine of his 17 in the second half and added a season-high five steals. Williams also added three 3-pointers and three rebounds.

The River Hawks trailed by 24 at the break but built off the momentum of a 7-1 run just before the half and carried it over holding the Great Danes scoreless through the first five minutes of the second half while scoring seven unanswered.

After making just 27.6% of their field goal attempts in the first half the River Hawks found a better offensive rhythm in the second half connecting on 47.6% of their attempts.

Kerry Weldon (New York, N.Y.) continued his strong rebounding of late, grabbing eight rebounds against an Albany team which ranks third in the America East in rebounding margin. Weldon came into the game averaging 7.55 rebounds in the past nine games.

UMass Lowell's 10-0 run midway through the second half was highlighted by a dunk in transition from Weldon, an and-1 from Williams, and a pair of free throws off a technical assessed to Albany Head Coach Will Brown.

The River Hawks continue their busy stretch of road games when they travel to Maryland to play UMBC Saturday at 2 P.M.
