Great Danes too Much for the River Hawks

ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2014) – UMass Lowell fell 93-47 to Albany at SEFCU Arena in Albany, NY on Tuesday Night. The Great Danes shot 65% (21-31) in the first half en route its 33rd straight America East Conference victory. 
 
The River Hawks fall to 3-18 overall and 2-8 in the America East, while Albany improves 20-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference play.
 
Juniors G Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) led the River Hawks with 13 and 12 points respectively. Sophomore F Lindsey Doucette (Hopkington, Mass.) had a team-high 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
 
Coming out of the first media timeout, Albany went on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 21-7 lead, and never looked back. The Great Danes would hold a double-digit lead throughout and took a 47-25 lead into the half.
 
Albany opened the second half with a 18-1 run to take a 65-26 lead into the eight minute media timeout.
  
Albany outrebounded UMass Lowell 47-24 overall and 22-9 offensively, leading to a 20-2 scoring advantage on second chance points. The Great Danes also forced UMass Lowell into committing 27 turnovers (opposed to 14) which translated into a 33-16 edge in points off turnovers.
 
The Great Danes sophomore Shereesha Richards led all scorers with 29 points. Junior Megan Crag had 17 points and 11 rebounds.  
 
UMass Lowell finished the game shooting 13-42 (.310) from the floor, while Albany shot 37-51 (.521) from the field.  
 
UMass Lowell will host UMBC on Saturday, at 1 p.m. The River Hawks defeated the Retrievers, 65-57, on Jan. 11 to pick up its first Division I win.
