Bangor, ME – Junior
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) scored a game-high 31 points, but it wasn't enough as Maine led wire-to-wire and defeated UMass Lowell, 84-65, Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Arena, in Bangor, ME.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 5-22 overall and finish off its inaugural America Conference schedule with a 4-12 record. The River Hawks will play a non-conference at NJIT on Tuesday night to close out the season.

Maine improves to 9-6 in conference and 15-13 overall and will close out its regular season on Saturday at UNH. The Black Bears will then participate in the America East Tournament.Â

Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 12 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks. Doucette has had three straight double-doubles. Junior
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) dropped 8 points.

Both teams kept turnovers to a minimum - UMass Lowell with 14 and Maine with 18 - but it was the Black Bears who made the most of them, outscoring the River Hawks 16-10 off turnovers. Maine also outscored UMass Lowell off the bench, 28-10.

UMass Lowell enjoyed a 18-7 advantage from the free throw line - UMass Lowell 18-24 and the Black Bears 7-15.

Black Bears closed out the first half on a 8-2 run and took a 41-27 led into the break.

The River Hawks shot just 34.9% for the game (22-63), while Maine shot 45.5% (35-77) overall and red hot 55.9% (19-34) in the second half.

The Black Bears were led by sophomore Liz Wood double-double, 20 points and 15 rebounds and had a game-high eight assists. Senior Cherrish Wallace scored 15 points.

Maine out rebounded the River Hawks, 57-34.Â
