River Hawks Fall 78-71 to the UNH Wildcats

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored 24 points, but the Wildcats came back from seven points down at halftime to defeat UMass Lowell , 78-71, Saturday afternoon at the Lundholm Gymnasium, in Durham, N.H.

UMass Lowell falls to 5-21 overall, 4-11 in America East and will play at Maine on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in its last America East game of the season. The Wildcats improve to 18-9, 11-2 in conference action and will host Albany in a clash of the top-two teams in America East on Wednesday night. 

Sophomore Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) had another solid game recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with three blocks. Junior Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) scored 14 points.

The Wildcats took a 6-4 advantage, 3:40 into the game, when the River Hawks went on a 9-0 run and captured a 13-6 lead. A lead they would hold onto going into the locker room at half.

UMass Lowell led 38-31 at halftime.

The River Hawks shot 44.4% (16-36) in the first half compared to UNH's 25.7% (9-35). UMass Lowell was 4-9 from beyond the arc with senior Lauren Fiola (Fall River, Mass.) going 2-2 from downtown.

UMass Lowell would stretch the lead out to nine points, with a, 42-33 lead less than two minutes into the 2nd half. The Wildcats would claw back into it and would eventually tie the game at 50 with 11:06 remaining. The would eventually jump ahead for good with 8:33 after UNH redshirt sophomore Corine Coia layup gave the Wildcats a 55-53 lead.    

UNH shot 61.3% (19-31) in the second half compared to UMass Lowell 44.4% (12-27).

The game had eight lead changes and was tied three times.

The Wildcats had two players in double figures led by Coia double-double, 24 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kelsey Hogan scored 22 points. 

UMass Lowell lost the turnover battle, committing 12 compared to just nine for UNH. 

The Wildcats had the advantage on the boards, out rebounding UMass Lowell 42-32.
