CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 7 UMass Lowell hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to top-ranked Boston College on Friday night at Conte Forum in Hockey East action.

With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 20-8-3 overall (10-5-2 HEA) and the Eagles improve to 25-4-3 and 16-1-1 in Hockey East play. The game marked the first time this season the River Hawks had been shutout.
    
The Eagles made it a 2-0 game on a tip goal by Adam Gilmour just 3:15 into the third period. Austin Cangelosi made it a 3-0 game on a breakaway backhand goal, beating UMass Lowell goalie Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Mich.) high blocker side just 1:53 later to seal the game's scoring.
    
With four seconds left in the second period, Ryan McGrath had a great chance coming down the right wing, but Thatcher Demko stood strong in the Eagles' net.
    
The River Hawks had a five minute power play midway through the second period and notched six shots on goal with that man advantage, but couldn't capitalize. BC's Scott Savage had a shorthanded breakway chance on the River Hawks extended power play, but Hellebuyck came out of the crease to play the puck and poke the puck away.
    
Senior forward Joseph Pendenza (Wilmington, Mass.) finished the night with a game-high eight shots on goal. Freshman forward Chris Maniccia (St. Catharines, Ont.) won 10 of 16 faceoffs in the loss to the Eagles.    

Boston College took a 1-0 lead in the locker room at the end of the first period off a Johnny Gaudreau shot at the goal line on the power play that went off the back of Hellebuyck at the 6:59 mark of the first period. Hellebuyck finished the night with 31 stops, while Demko recorded 33 saves in his second career shutout. Hellebuyck notched 30+ saves for the 11th time this season.
