River Hawks fall, 79-68, to Stony Brook

Junior Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) scored a career-high 35 points and dished out four assists but it wasn't enough as UMass Lowell fell, 79-68, to Stony Brook, Saturday afternoon at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass.
 
UMass Lowell drops to 5-19, 4-9 in America East, while Stony Brook improves to 18-7 and 9-3 in conference play.
 
The River Hawks will finish its season with four road games, starting at the Hartford Hawks on Wednesday night. The Seawolves will play at UMBC also on Wednesday night. 
 
Senior Lauren Fiola (Fall River, Mass.) played her final home game as a River Hawk and finshed with a season-high nine points and eight boards in 22 minutes. Sophomore Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished the day with 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Brittany Lomanno (Billerica, Mass.) had team-high five assists.
 
The River Hawks lead almost the entire first half and took a, 35-33, lead into the locker room. Samuels had 15 points in the first half.
 
The Seawolves shot 55.6% in the second half and would grab a 41-40, lead 3:29 in the 2nd stanza. Stony Brook would go on a 13-2 run to take 54-42, advantage with 12 to go.
 
Stony Brook shot 45.1% (32-71) from the floor for the game, while UMass Lowell struggled to shot just 31.3% (21-67). The River Hawks once again shot well from the charity strip shooting 83.3% (20-24), while the Seawolves shot 70.6% (12-17).
 
For the 19th time this season UMass Lowell was out rebounded by its opponent. The Seawolves out rebounded the River Hawks 59-35.  
 
The Sewolves had five players in double figures, led by senior guard Chikilra Goodman with 21 points, Goodman also led Stony Brook with 16 rebounds. Seniro Teasha Harris also had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Stony Brook dominated in the paint outscoring UMass Lowell 50-26 and had a 22-2 advantage from the bench.
