Nicole Hayner's (Bedford, N.H.) timely shooting, the UMass Lowell women's basketball team ripped off a 21-6 run in the second half to beat Yale, 80-72 at Costello Athletic Center on Monday night.

Entering the contest with 10 points on the season, Hayner scored a season-high 12 points to help the River Hawks (4-4) match their home win total from the entire 2013-14 season, with three wins. The win ended the Bulldogs (3-5) two-game win streak and kept UMass Lowell undefeated in two tries against Ivy League opponents.

Seniors
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) and
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) combined to score 45 points, led by Samuels' game-high 24 points while McRoy added 21. McRoy also grabbed 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Junior forward
Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) recorded her second double-double in three games with her 15 point, 10 rebounds performance.

The run started four minutes into the second half and stretched over six minutes with Hayner scoring the first nine points. The River Hawks connected on four of their five three-point attempts and forced three turnovers to turn a 44-41 Yale lead into a 60-50 advantage.

Samuels was held scoreless for the first 17 minutes before scoring her first two baskets after picking up a pair of steals and would later add a triple. The guard capped off her 11-point first half output with a jumper to end the half.

The River Hawks will host the Bryant Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday night as part of the first doubleheader of the season with the men tipping off against Dartmouth at 8:00 p.m.Â
