LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell freshman forward
Michael Louria (Wexford, Penn.) has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week after scoring twice in as many games including the overtime winner in Saturday's River Hawk 3-2 victory against the University of Maine.
Louria's goal against Maine came with just 63-seconds remaining in the overtime period. Taking a pass from sophomore
Evan Campbell (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) at the left edge of the crease Louria squared himself to the net and fired the puck halfway up inside the far post to end the contest. It was his fourth goal of the season and third game winner.
The goal was also Louria's second of the week. Wednesday night he found the back of the net with a one-timer from the left circle to give UMass Lowell a 3-1 lead in an eventual 6-4 victory against Connecticut.
Louria was a plus-1 in each of the games during the week and has been even or a plus in all 11 games in which he has skated. He also had three shots on goal in the two games. The goals were his second and third in a five game span.
Hockey East honored Louria and two others, Monday, in the league's regular weekly award announcements. Boston University forward Danny O'Regan was named the Warrior Hockey Player of the Week and Notre Dame defenseman Robbie Russo earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor.
